The Falkland islands have a rich history and heritage and are also a very beautiful and fascinating part of the world to visit. Not many people can probably say that they have been to the Falkland islands, as they lie in the South Atlantic Ocean about 300 miles from Argentina. Because of this rather unique situation of being so close to Argentina but also being an overseas territory of the United Kingdom, the Falkland islands have had an infamous recent history. The Falkland island invasion in 1982 by Argentina may be the only thing most people have heard about the place, but when you look a little closer you can see why the Falkland islands are a very special part of the world.

Because of its relative isolation and sheer distance from Europe, anyone visiting the Falkland islands is sure to be up for an expensive holiday. Once you get on the island it is fine, but getting there can really stretch the budget. You will certainly have to do some fundraising before you make your trip to the islands, and there are a number of ways that you can do so.
Most people save up for a long time before going on a holiday, putting a little money away each week in order to have that week or two to enjoy during their summer break. By learning to budget effectively you can expand the amount you save every week by a big amount. Some people even buy their plane tickets and start to plan their holidays a long time in advance so that they can start getting excited about their trip. This makes saving money that much easier as you can see the reason behind your weekly sacrifices much clearer by having a concrete plan in your head, truly a great fundraising idea. While periodically putting savings away is definitely the most popular and responsible method of raising funds for a trip, it is certainly not the only way.
You can always borrow the money you need for a holiday off friends and family, or even borrow from a bank if you really can’t wait to go. Some people have even been known to use their credit cards like a short term loan so that they can get straight onto that plane. While I would never recommend this option because of the huge interest you will be charged by the banks, if you do have a credit card it is a sure fire way to cut down on that holiday waiting time.
There is no way around it, the Falkland islands are not a cheap place to visit. As I have mentioned, the sheer distance is the main reason that there is only a small number of visitors who go there. Because of this, there is little in the way of infrastructure, which raises costs more due to lower competition and less flights. The Falkland islands are an incredible place to go on holiday however. If you can stomach the costs by thinking ahead and planning well then you are sure to have a great time once you are there.
